This is a woman only post and is exempt under schedule 9 part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

Salary:                       Currently £21,842 per annum, pro rata for part time.

Hours:               18 hours per week (hours to be discussed – to include evening and weekend work as necessary) This is a temporary contract ending 31st March 2022.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To support children and young people in recognising the choices they have within their situation and to voice their wishes and opinions.
  • To offer one to one support to children and young people to enable them to work through their experiences and feelings of domestic abuse
  • To liaise and advocate on behalf of children/mothers with other agencies in order to coordinate support services and ensure access to services in the community are available.
  • To accompany children and their mother to relevant appointments/social and leisure opportunities when necessary in line with Nottinghamshire Women’s Aid policies and procedures.
  • To work with the Children’s Services Team in order to develop ways of involving children, young people and their mothers in developing, delivering and evaluating children’s services.
  • To advocate on behalf of children to ensure their experiences of domestic violence are recognised and understood by their mother, other professionals and other significant contacts within their network of support.
  • To arrange and supervise play sessions, leisure activities and outings that are stimulating and educational for all the children in the house.
  • To communicate with other children’s workers, the children’s services team leader and children’s service coordinator regarding the purchase and upkeep of play equipment.
  • To compile reports, assessments and records and attend meetings for child protection purposes in line with Nottinghamshire Women’s Aid child protection policy and procedures
  • To support mothers in understanding and coping with their children’s feelings and experiences of domestic violence.
  • To take joint responsibility in the day-to-day running of the refuge.
  • To carry an out of hours pager (if required)
  • To support mothers in parenting skills.
  • To support mothers with managing their children’s behaviour in order to ensure compliance and maintenance of their licence agreement.
  • To ensure children understand the need for security and confidentiality in the refuge to ensure the safety of the project.
  • To provide telephone support, information and signposting where necessary to children, young people and their mother.
  • To build and maintain up to date and relevant information/resources for both children and their mother.
  • In conjunction with the Children’s Services Team, organise and facilitate groups, therapeutic work, educational workshops, events, information sessions, etc for children, young people and their mothers on issues around children and domestic violence, parenting and issues which affect young people.
  • To attend and participate in team, project meetings as required.
  • To identify and access training opportunities as agreed by the relevant Service Coordinator.
  • To provide a basic level of cover for annual leave and sickness for children’s workers across projects, where necessary
  • To maintain accurate recording systems including monitoring and evaluation and ensure they are passed to relevant person for collation and distribution
  • To work as part of Nottinghamshire Women’s Aid Limited Children’s Services Team in order to develop services, build relationships across projects and consult with children, young people and their mother to ensure children remain central to the services provided for them.
  • To participate in the development and review of Nottinghamshire Women’s Aid Ltd policies and procedures
  • To take part in annual service reviews
  • To ensure Safeguarding and Child Protection procedures are followed at all times.
  • To maintain health and safety procedures to ensure a safe working, living and play environment
  • To apply Nottinghamshire Women’s Aid equal opportunities policy in all aspects of work.
  • To take all possible steps to ensure the safety and confidentiality of the users and employees of the organisation
  • To work within the ethos, values and principles of Nottinghamshire Women’s Aid Ltd and WAFE.
  • To ensure that all policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • To carry out any other duties which may vary from time to time as may be reasonably required within the general level of responsibilities of the post
